Composting isn't the fringe activity that it was once considered to be. With the new drive to live green, everyone looks for ways that they can add green living, easily and cheaply, to their lives.
Creating compost with a compost tumbler or compost bin is an easy way for your family to naturally reduce landfill waste and has the added benefit of providing compost - what many gardeners consider an almost miraculous addition to any garden.

NatureMill Pro Automatic Composter

By JeffDavis

naturemill-pro-automatic-composterCompost tumblers are a great blessing for those who desire to have some compost in their garden, but don’t have the patience and the time to make an open one. These machines work by providing the microorganisms responsible for compost process the three basic survival needs which are necessary for the fast decomposition of the materials. These are food, water, and air.

These microorganisms function with the presence of compost materials, which are considered their food. The moisture and water content of these materials serve as the water while oxygen, which enters through the air vents and circulates through turning the tumbler, is important for a faster decomposition process.
One really good thing about these compost tumblers is that the previous month to year long waiting for quality compost has been cut down into fourteen days of constantly feeding, and turning the tumbler. Compost tumblers, such as the NatureMill Pro Automatic Composter, are catalysts for the fast decomposition process of compost materials, thus providing the owners quality and time-effective compost for their gardens.

Hands Free Tumbling

Unlike any other compost tumblers, the NatureMill Pro Automatic Composter has foot pedals which allow the feet to work the tumbling of the machine; whereas in just about any other tumbler, turning is done by hand, either turning a crank to tumble the compost or spinning the unit itself. By implementing the foot control, NatureMill has made composting a bit neater, eliminating the soiling and contamination of your hands and making tumbling a bit easier for people whose arms aren't up to the task of regular tumbling.

Load Materials Anytime

Another unique characteristic of this NatureMill PRO Automatic Composter is that the interior of this machine has both an upper and lower chamber - each of which serves different purposes. The upper chamber serves as the reception area for compost materials, and it is where these materials are mixed, heated and cut into smaller bits of waste. Another great purpose of this upper chamber is to allow heat to release the odor and other unnecessary microorganisms, thus lessening the foul smell of the compost materials inside. In fact, the smell of the material inside is just comparable to a sourdough.

As soon as these materials turn into fragments of waste, they are transferred automatically to the lower chamber, where they are deposited for other decomposition processes. This allows the owners to place in materials and wastes anytime of the day, without interrupting the compost process.
Adding up saw dust and baking powder is also useful in keeping a brown tint for the end product, and reducing acidity brought about by the decomposition process inside.

Structurally Strategic

NatureMill Pro Automatic Composter is made of stainless steel materials and weighs about 17 pounds. This comes out of the package ready to use, so there is no need to spend impatient hours just to assemble the compost tumbler. Because of its material, this tumbler can be used any time of the year - be it during the scorching summer, or the frigging winter. You can place it in your garden, laundry, or kitchen - it just fits and looks good naturally because of its classy, but sturdy structure.

The NatureMill Pro Automatic Composter is currently unavailable on Amazon.com. While it was listed there, it was priced at $399.99 - and to top the deal off, shipping was free. Williams-Sonoma also has the NatureMill Pro. The price is the same as Amazon, but shipping is not free.

This is a fantastic composter! I am so in love with it. It does not require the tumbling and turning and lifting that the other composters require, and it can be used all year round.

I have been using my naturemill continuously for about 2 years. It is really great. Periodically I review my energy bill and it has not gone up so I know that the power consumption is almost zero. There are no odors or noises other than a very quiet humm like a fish tank. I hope that they come out with one for restaurants.

I am so happy with my Naturemill compost bin! This is the only composter that is automatic. It is also the only composter which can take meat, fish, and dairy, because it gets very hot inside. None of the other compost bins get hot according to their review from customers. I strongly recommend naturemill as the best compost bin out there and I give it my highest review.

It’s a good composter. Used it for several years. No problems with it and sometimes we even forget it’s there until we go to a friend’s house and have to use the regular stinky kind of trash can.

I wish it were bigger for leaves and garden clippings. It is only big enough for the kitchen though.

I loved this composter when I received it and started using it. However just shy of a year after purchase it doesn’t dump the compost anymore. I cleaned it all out and hosed it out and still no go. I did notice that it had mangled the metal plate on the front end. It looks like after use material builds up behind the plant and pushes it out so that the plate gets hit my the mixing arm. The plate being aluminum gets mangled by the arm. I didn’t put in anything I wasn’t supposed to I followed the instructions in the book exactly as I wanted this investment to last. Alas it was not to be. I have read of many other problems with this composter as well while trying to look for a solution. The main one seems to be jamming and the mixer arm motor dying. I never had either of those problems but I might as well have. It’s still just as unusable unless I want to keep manually scooping out the compost and making a mess.

Great machine! Best composter I have encountered and I did a lot of research. I have one of the newer XE model machines (from 2010) and it has a few upgrades that I think will make it more durable. I’ve had it nearly 6 months and no problems so far. It is fairly quiet but you can hear it click on and off every so often as it mixes.
